Tried driving, running, swimming but no matter what it always sets off the alarm....GTA IV. Why cant you cross the bridges to the other parts of the city without getting nailed by the feds?

haha, i made the same mistake. I saw the cops standing behind the bollards and assumed that the worst that would happen if i crossed them would be a 1 star rating, but was shocked to see 6 stars!!! I RAN FOR THE HILLS, but got completely obliterated by the choppers
i dunno, i think it is because if u can go to any island freely there will be no point in doing the missions, since gta is known for just going around town killing everything
you gotta do some missions... once you do certain ones youll unlock the next island.
Thats how its been for previous GTA's O_O
because there is supposed to be a terrorist threat or something like that
